Gideon Geerling - Director / Instruction Coordinator

Gideon first developed an interest in rock-climbing in Australia as a teenager, learning on the crags around his home town of Adelaide and Mt Arapiles in Victoria. After a successful career as a pastry chef, Gideon found his love for the outdoors greater than his love for cooking

After qualifying as a climbing instructor in the late 1990s Gideon instructed for numerous companies around South Australia.

Moving to New Zealand he soon gained skills and experience in the Alps and crags near his new home of Christchurch. While studying outdoor recreation at Christchurch Polytechnic.

Gideon is currently the Director of the New Zealand Snow Safety Institute™ (www.nzssi.com) and instruction coordinator for the Canterbury Mountaineering Club (www.cmc.net.nz) as well as a senior alpine and avalanche awareness instructor for the NZ Mountain Safety Council (www.mountainsafety.org.nz) and south island polytechnic outdoor recreation programs.

On his off days Gideon shares his time between some of Christchurch's great coffee and his wife Wendy & 2 boys Isaac and Nathan.

Qualifications include:

• NZOIA Alpine 2 and Rock 1

• MSC Alpine 2 & Avalanche Stage 1

• Pre Hospital Emergency Care (PHEC)

• Dip. Outdoor Recreation
